How to build a consistent Prayer Routine #2

Posted on October 27, 2025November 3, 2025 by BARBARA BRITTO

How the Book of Ephesians Shaped My Quiet Time

I wrote earlier of setting up a consistent spiritual practice. I did not have a set time. But, I made an effort to set aside a dedicated half-hour daily for quiet time. This effort was made even without a fixed schedule. I found my rhythm starting with the book of Ephesians. Unlike past attempts where I would start with Genesis and lose focus long before Numbers, this particular book resonated deeply. It proved to be a revelation, rich in theological precepts and practical wisdom despite its small size.

The Apostle Paul wrote this letter to the Ephesians while he was imprisoned in AD 62. The letter profoundly addresses identity, purpose, and spiritual maturity. Reading Paul’s words, I felt a deep connection to the concept of having my identity in Christ—a familiar spiritual truth. My quiet time transformed from simple prayer and journaling into a space of profound revelation and renewal. I do need more time to fully explore these ideas and articulate their personal meaning.

SPIRITUAL RESOURCES (Some resources I am looking at CLICK HERE)

I embraced the principle of grace, though I still question why some are favored. Unity in Christ’s body, as in Ephesians 4, became a powerful theme. I realized my tendency to let differences divide, shifting my prayers to intercession for reconciliation, healing, and humility. Most often we are aware of others’ faults but oblivious to our own. My quiet time became a space to cultivate peace in myself and my relationships.

Ephesians challenged me to embrace spiritual authority and the armor of God. This is outlined in Chapter 6: truth, righteousness, readiness, faith, salvation, and the Word. I believe in an unseen spiritual realm with forces beyond human understanding, having discerned uncomfortable places or people. It’s easy to think “This will never happen to me.” Yet, often it begins with small transgressions—a little lie, gossip, or theft. We rationalize these by telling ourselves “everyone does it” or “it suits me fine.” or “I am entitled”

Ephesians 3:20 had the most profound impact on me. It serves as a powerful reminder that God “is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.” This verse quickly became a cornerstone of my hope. Whenever discouragement set in, I would return to it, allowing it to reshape my expectations and rekindle my trust. My quiet time transformed into a sanctuary of possibility and hope.

Engaging with Ephesians has deepened my theological understanding. It has also inspired me to contemplate its precepts more profoundly. I confess to earlier reading it without truly grasping its meaning. It has since provided a framework for my spiritual practices, enriching my prayers with new depth. In these quiet moments, I’ve found clarity. By documenting these experiences, I aim to solidify my personal practices and explore the underlying reasons for my faith. My goal is to articulate my beliefs through my lived experiences and understand their profound significance for me. As in every discipline, consistency is key and I would add prayer for guidance to help with understanding. Too often, we think we know it all.

I have set this week to read the book of Philippians and re-read again Ephesians. Stay tuned ……
